Coronavirus (COVID-19): Please do not attend the surgery unless told to do so. We have moved to telephone triage appointments. Routine appointments have been cancelled. Nurse appointments will be telephoned first. Please wear a face covering/mask when attending the surgery.

Need to see a GP or Practice Nurse in the evening or weekends?
GPs in central Durham, Chester le Street and Derwentside are working together to offer extra GP and Practice Nurse appointments from 6.30pm on weekday evenings as well as Saturday full days and Sunday mornings.
Just call your surgery to book any available evening and weekend GP appointments.
Changes to Coxhoe Medical Practice
From Monday 2nd September 2019 Coxhoe Medical Practice changed ownership. The partners at Cestria Health Centre (Chester le Street) have taken over the running of the practice. You do not need to worry about this and all of your normal services will continue to be provided from the Coxhoe site.
We are committed to keeping all that is best about Coxhoe whilst maximising the benefits of being part of a larger organisation. We plan to provide you with continuity, better access to clinicians and a wider range of services, while still retaining a “small and friendly” feel.
We understand that you may have questions about the joining forces of our two Practices, and we intend to address this in a number of ways:
Firstly, we have tried to answer some of the questions we think you may have via a “Frequently Asked Question” type format . This information can be made available in paper format and in larger font, if required.
Secondly, information is available in the waiting room.
The views and thoughts of patients are very important and help shape what we do. We would welcome your feedback and the opportunity to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Thank you.

When is the transfer taking place?
Formal transfer took place on Monday 2nd September 2019
What will the new practice be called?
For now the two sites will continue to be known as Coxhoe Medical Practice and Cestria Health Centre
What difference will this make to me as a patient?
The practice is determined to maintain a family-friendly service despite becoming a bigger joint practice. You should see little change in the day to day services that you receive as a patient but we will endeavour to provide better continuity and a wider range of specialist services.
Will it be easier to get an appointment?
We will undertake a comprehensive review of how the appointments system works. You will still be able to book online, via telephone or in person. We are hoping that there will be more appointment availability to enable more patients to book an appointment that suits them.

What services can I expect?
· Urgent conditions/illnesses will be assessed either by telephone or seen on the day
· Option of online appointment booking
· Option of online repeat prescriptions
· Text confirmation and reminder of appointments
· The ability to speak to a GP or Nurse Practitioner on the phone
Will I still be able to see the GP/Nurse of my choice?
Practice Nurses that are involved in your care will still be there. There will be additional choice in the clinicians that you see, if you wish.
Will we be making staff redundant?
No, we will not be making any staff redundant through this process
Will I need to ring a different telephone number?
No, we will be keeping all telephone lines for all practices.
Will I still be able to have online access?
Yes, online services will continue as normal and there will be no change
We will try our best to provide you with the highest possible standard of health care. Please share responsibility with us for your own health and well being and please co-operate with us in taking advice regarding any treatment recommended or prescribed.
We hope that you try to adopt healthy lifestyle habits and ask us for help and advice when necessary. Please co-operate with us by using our, and other NHS, services appropriately and letting us know if you cannot keep any appointments.
All online appointments have been removed with immediate effect in line with guidance from NHS England. This is to reduce the risk of a patient presenting at the surgery with Coronavirus. This service will be reinstated once we are advised it is safe to do so.
